New York After Sandy – Back to Business
I flew out from New York a day before hurricane Sandy hit the US east coast. Everybody who has US friends and / or colleagues kept their fingers crossed that „Sandy“ wouldn’t do them harm. New York, the city that never sleeps, slept for several hours. Subway closed, all three airports closed, schools closed, city highways closed. The city was literally shut down.
Hurricane Sandy was one of the worst if not the worst storms that ever hit New York. The damages are more than significant: a whole neighborhood burned down in Queens and New Jersey looks like a region during a war.
And what do the New Yorkers do, almost immediately after there was no danger any more walking outside? They go to work. The New York citizens just get back to „regular programming.“ They return back to business. Even though the subway was still closed and just some buses were reactivated, people got back to their jobs.
The New Yorkers are known for being „tough cookies.“ They just keep going. It was so after 9/11 and again after hurricane „Sandy.“ I admire the New Yorkers for their bravery and wish that we all can learn something from their attitude. Kudos to you!
